History

Dk.tech.gear was born out of necessity. When we became interested in DIR in 1997, nobody in Denmark knew anybody about it and no dealers that carried DIR equipment. Therefore Peter persuaded Torben to make him a backplate and when Torben saw the plate, he wanted one for himself. Several others became interested in the backplates so shortly hereafter, we began selling them to others. The first were sold in July 1998. We imported the webbing and D-rings from the USA.

Halcyon

In 1999 we began selling Halcyon who, at the time, was the only manufacturer of DIR equipment. We did Halcyon for more than 4 years although we over all that time only sold our own backplate, as we found Halcyon's too expensive.

Later, in 2003, we began selling spools - and later, primary lights - from MJ Engineering - yet again because we found the Halcyon prices too high.

Halcyon did not approve of this because March 5th 2003, Halcyon announced to us that they did not want to support us as dealers any longer. At around the same time, a host of dealers all over Europe had their dealership revoked.

DTD

Suddenly we were without a main brand which, naturally, was a bit disconcerting, seeing that we still had a lot of other goods. We had been in contact with Jiri Hurab from the Czech Republic (Peter had met him around the caves of France) and when he told us he had a complete line of DIR products brewing, we got really excited. March 10th, we got our first price list.

When we saw the products - not to mention the prices - we almost felt glad that Halcyon kicked us out! We have no doubts that Halcyon had better look out that they will not get in great trouble in Europe now DTD is here with the same quality and 30% (approx.) cheaper products.

DIR Zone

Jiri did not think he had enough time to run DTD, so Sandro Madeo from Germany took over the company and renamed it to DIR Zone. Since his taking over of the business, products have improved in quality and features so DIR Zone now stands as a very worthy competitor to "that brand from Florida". We are still official importers in Denmark.

Other brands

We constantly scan the market for good DIR products at low prices. We also have suits, undersuits, mitts, twin tank bands, etc.

New owners

As of January 1. 2006, Torben Andersson quit as co-owner of dk.tech.gear. He did not have enough time to run the company. Tom Christiansen took over Torben's part in the company

As of January 1. 2009, Peter Fjelsten quit as co-owner, also due to lack of time.

From now on, Tom is sole owner and because of this different owner structure, it was necessary to change the VAT/company number. The company continues as before and takes over all obligations of the old company.

Our values

We have always been mainly about getting DIR across to as many as possible. We are primarily advocates for DIR and then businessmen so with us you can always be certain that our advice is real and not just a means to shift a lot of goods.

Dk.tech.gear also is one of the oldest dealers of DIR equipment in Scandinavia - and maybe the only one with only DIR products.
